In June 2008, AGROERG signed a Protocol of Intent with the government of Minas Gerais and INDI (Integrated Development Institute of Minas Gerais) connected to SEDE (the Department of Economic Development of the state of Minas Gerais) which contains basic information for the installation of the sugar alcohol project in the region. In this Protocol of Intent, the government of Minas Gerais authorized the installation of the AGROERG operations in an area of more than 80,000 hectares which comprises the towns of Canápolis, Centralina and Monte Alegre de Minas. Through the Protocol, and according to State Decree-Law nº 45.041 issued by the Government of Minas Gerais dated 12 February 2009, AGROERG is guaranteed that no other similar project will be approved in its area of operation.
On August 14th 2008, AGROERG carried out a public hearing in the town of Centralina when it obtained support for the project from various members of the local community.
On June 5th 2009, AGROERG was granted the concession of a Provisional Environmental License from Copam – Environmental Policy State Council (Conselho Estadual de Política Ambiental) of Semad – Department of Environment and Sustainable Development of Minas Gerais (Secretaria de Estado de Meio Ambiente e Desenvolvimento Sustentável do governo de Minas Gerais).
